Great drawing, the crop is a bit unfortunate though since it confines the creature. I hope you'll change the layout when/if you do continue to work on it. I'd love to see work like this put to use in a storybook or something similar more often.
I am always horrible at determining the proper space for these sort of things, I do intend on expanding the it a lot more horizontally, Thanks a bunch for the crit. Hopefully there will be more things like this in the near future! Thanks again.
I guess it depends on the story you want to tell. You have this beautiful creature that even though it's on the ground and not flying, takes a "dignified" posture. It also looks almost as if it's focusing on a light source above it's head. So for me at least the crop of the image right above its head comes as a suprise. Caging the beast, confining it to it's position on the ground, taking away the air and space it would need to get off the ground - but the posture doesn't support that interpretation. Hope that makes any sense to you. Again, it's a great drawing. I'm really looking forward to seeing more like this! I treasure the Conan-Book with Mark Schultz's interior drawings because there are too few books (in germany at least) that make use of enriching illustrations like Schultz's or yours.
